Mt. Merapi Explosion

Number 26 has a special meaning for Indonesian because there were some accidents happen on 26th. The first was tsunami in Aceh which happened on December 26th 2004, the second one was earth quake in Yogyakarta on May 26th 2006, and the last one was Merapi explosion on 26th October 2010.

It was a cloudy morning when I woke up on Tuesday, 26th October 2010. I thought that it would rain but I was very surprised when I realized that it was a dust rain. I waked my friend who has TV in my boarding house and asked her to turn on the TV. Than it was a Merapi Explosion at least there were three times explosions. The explosion sprayed out vulkanik materials as high as 1,5 km and it followed by hot cloud which was called “wedus gembel”. It attacked Kaliadem, Kepuharjo village, Cangkringan subdistrict, Sleman. It caused 43 people dead include “Mbah Marijan”, the guard of Mt. Merapi who were very well-though-of society surrounding Mt. Merapi.

The raising status of Mt. Merapi from “normal” to be “wary” was recommended by BPPTK Yogyakarta on September 20th 2010. On October 21th the status changed to be “alert”. An evacuation has to be prepared. On October 25th, BPPTK Yogyakarta recommended the increasing status of Mt. Merapi to be “sharp-sighted” and determined that the secure zone was 10 km from the top of M. Merapi.

It was the first time of big accident I got in Yogyakarta. Although in my boarding house and campus had no big effect of the explosion, I fell very afraid in this situation because I was far from my family. I tried to overcome my frightened and thought that everything will be okay.

Friday, October 26th 2010 my friend woke me up at 02.00 a.m. She told me that Mt. Merapi exploded again and it is bigger than before. There was a sand rain in my boarding house and we could hear the thundering of Mt. Merapi. It’s very scared. All of the people in my boarding house woke up because of it. We can not sleep any more.

BPPTK determined that the secure zone was 20 km from Mt. Merapi. But it was too late. There were so many victims because of the explosion. It could be a bigger explosion so the society had been evacuated as soon as possible.

In the morning I got information that the examination was canceled because of the enable situation. My parent asked me to go home because they felt concerned about me. Actually I want to go home by bus but the street in Magelang was closed. My friends and I decided to go home by motorcycle by way another traffic lane although the situation was very bad.

It was the most scared journey I ever had. The way through the journey was covered by sand and dust. In the way, the rain came and made the street was very slick. One of my friends fell from his motorcycle because of the slick street. The journey from Yogyakarta to Banjarnegara that commonly spends 3-4 ours, at the time we spent almost 7 ours.

I came back to Yogyakarta at Sunday because the examination would be continued. But in the night after I arrive in Yogyakarta, I got an information that the examination was delayed until 2 weeks later. It was impossible if I went home again to Banjarnegara at the time because it was too dangerous.

I was offered to be a volunteer of Merapi explosion. Actually my parents didn’t allow me to be a volunteer but I could make sure to them that I would be fine. I became a volunteer in DODIKlatpur and SD N 2 Pluneng, Klaten during one week. I taught the children of evacuation there. It was the greatest experience I ever had. I learned many things there. I learn to be a good teacher, and a good friend for them. I learned how to teach well and tried to heal their trauma by playing with them. The condition of the evacuation was very bad. They didn’t get any suitable facilities and their main requirements. They had to hold out their life with the patch up facilities. I felt to be the most fortune person there. I hope this accident can over as soon as possible.

My Avocation

Hobby is a continuous activity that people feel happy doing the activity it self. I’m sure that everybody has their own hobby. By doing their hobby they can enjoy their life and can refresh their mind from their work or their problem they have.

I have some hobbies. They are reading, traveling, watching movie, and photography. I like reading since I was a child. When I couldn’t read yet, I often asked my mother to read a story for me. My mother didn’t want to read any story book again for me since I was in elementary school because she wants me to read the story by my self. I learn hard to read and my mother always helps me to learn. Then this hobby is still going on until now. I like reading everything but the most favorite book I read is novel. It can improve my imagination when read it. I feel that I’m watching movie in my mind. Book is a friend that will not praise you too much, a friend that will never deceive on you.

I like a challenge. That’s why I like traveling especially in a natural place that has some challenging things there or it needs hard struggle to arrive there. I like traveling to somewhere with my friends by motorcycle because It’s cheaper than other transportation. It’s also an efficient and challenging transportation. By traveling to somewhere, it can improve knowledge and experiences. Everyplace has their own peculiarity that other places don’t have the peculiarity itself.

Watching movie is one of my hobbies. I often spend my spare time with watching movie. Action movie is the most favorite movie I like. Maybe it has a relation between my interest in a challenge thing. But it doesn’t mean that I never watch the other kind of movie such as romantic, horror, or comedy film. Whatever the kind of movie, the most important is that it can make me enjoy my spare time.

When I see a beautiful photo I always think how they can take the photo well. Actually I want to learn how to take a good picture but it needs much money. I just learn autodidact with the patch camera I have. I wish that someday I can buy a professional camera so I can hunt many pictures every time and everywhere I like.

BANJARNEGARA, A small town with the beautiful sundry

Banjarnegara is my beloved hometown. It’s a small town located between Wonosobo and Purwokerto. Most of Banjarnegara areas are highland, so the weather is cool. It rains almost everyday when rainy season comes.

There are many beautiful places in Banjarnegara, for example Dieng plateau, Serayu river, Lawe hill, Curug Pitu, etc. Dieng plateau is the most popular tourist destination in Banjarnegara. Part of it belongs to Wonosobo. That’s why sometimes it’s to be controversy between Banjarnegara and Wonosobo. There are many tourism objects in Dieng plateau. They are Kawah Sikidang, Danau Condrodimuko, Candi Arjuna, and others. I recommended you to visit Dieng plateau. I’m sure you will never forget about it and regret of visiting it.

Serayu river is the biggest and the longest river in Banjarnegara. The water flow is very hard it’s often used to do water sports such as arung jeram. There has ever been an International arung jeram competition. It’s the biggest event ever held in Banjarnegara.

There are many special foods and drinks in Banjarnegara. They are salak, apem, combro, mendoan, and the most popular drink is dawet ayu Banjarnegara. Yet you can also find dawet ayu Banjarnegara in many places but it has different taste from the original dawet ayu Banjarnegara.

My mother, the spirit of my life

Sri Yanti is my mother. She is tall and slim. She has black curly hair. She is about 46 years old but she looks younger than her age. She is a teacher of SD N 4 Krandegan, Banjarnegara. She is a smart and diligent teacher. She often accompanies her students to join competition in other cities. She is very talkative. She is often angry with me and my brothers especially when we make mistakes.

I’m very proud of her because she never looks sad although she has many problems. My mother never tells me about her problems. But I know if she has a problem because her eyes can not lie. She will go to bed earlier without saying anything if she has many problems. Actually, I want to help her but I don’t know what I can do for her. I just pray for her in order that she can solve her problem and I can see her beautiful smile again. If I or my brothers are sick she will very discouraged of us and she will give us more care for our health. We love her so much. My mother is my spirit of my life.
